About Sprout Diary

A family journaling platform designed to help families capture, preserve, and share memories together.

Our Story

The Memories We Almost Lost

It started with a Google Photos notification.

One evening, a memory popped up on my phone—our daughter, three years younger, laughing in the backyard. My wife and I stared at it, hit with a wave of nostalgia. We could see what happened, but we couldn't remember why she was laughing.

When our second child was born, she triggered glimpses of memories from raising our first. But within just a few short years, so much had already blurred. The funny stories? Gone. The sweet things she said? Forgotten. We had the photos, but we'd lost the stories behind them.

Then came the bedtime questions.

Inspired by a Reddit post about interactive family journaling, we started a simple routine—asking our daughter thoughtful questions before bed. One night, I shared something from my day as a cardiologist: "I tried to help a patient who was getting very sick, but despite our best efforts, we had to send him to a different hospital."

What happened next stunned me. Her questions came rapid-fire, each more insightful than the last:

"Can the patient drive when his heart artery is blocked?"

No, we sent him by ambulance to a different hospital.

"What happens to his car if he's going by ambulance?"

"How does he sleep with a stent in his heart?"

I was stunned. At such a young age, her thinking was so mature, so empathetic. She wasn't just hearing my words—she was imagining the patient's entire experience. His fear. His logistics. His sleep.

Without our bedtime journaling, I might never have noticed this growth. I might have missed this window into who she was becoming. These weren't just questions—they were glimpses into her developing sense of empathy and logic.

Yes, bedtime got delayed by a few minutes.

Sometimes her school stories ran long—detailed accounts of playground dynamics, friend disagreements, small triumphs. Sometimes we were exhausted and wanted to just turn off the lights.

But those few extra minutes? They built an incredibly strong bond. They helped us truly know our daughter—not just watch her grow, but understand how she thinks, what she cares about, what worries her, what excites her, and who she's becoming.

That's why we built Sprout Diary.

Because memories fade faster than we think. Because the stories behind the photos matter just as much as the photos themselves. Because a few extra minutes of connection today becomes a lifetime of memories tomorrow.

We're Kaustubh and Vaama, parents of two beautiful children. We built Sprout Diary not as entrepreneurs, but as parents desperately trying to hold onto the fleeting moments of childhood. If it helps your family the way it's helped ours, we'll consider it a success.

Why It Matters

In a world of performative social media, we're building something different—a private, authentic space for families.

Memories for Love, Not Likes

Sprout Diary challenges the performative nature of social media by offering a private space where families can preserve memories for what truly matters—strengthening family bonds and creating a lasting legacy.

Why We Focus on Emotional Growth

When we started building Sprout Diary, we discovered something unexpected: parents don't just want to remember what happened—they want to understand what their children are thinking and feeling.

The breakthrough came when we removed all social features (likes, comments, followers). Without performance pressure, kids revealed depths of maturity, thoughtfulness, and emotional intelligence their parents never knew existed.

That's when we realized: Sprout isn't just a memory app. It's an emotional development tracker that helps parents catch patterns, spot struggles, and celebrate growth before they miss the signals.

Every child deserves to be understood, not just remembered.

Through two simple daily questions and weekly growth summaries, Sprout helps families track persistence, resilience, and curiosity—the emotional milestones that matter just as much as first steps and first words.
